When the payphone industry was deregulated, it became a magnet for manufacturers of shoddy equipment. This "educational" ad was created to position Intellicall phones as more soundly and intelligently built than the competition's phones.
This ad positions Intellicall's phone company "lookalike" phone as the intelligent alternative, with built-in circuitry that makes it more profitable to own and operate.
The chief mission in the payphone business is to maximize the profitability of each phone. This is an ad for a circuit board that adds intelligent features to payphones. The ad employs a direct communication of the ultimate benefit: higher profits.
